How to Start Online Therapy with Emilea

Schedule Your Free 20 Min Call

The Cannot-Skip First Step:

Take a deep breath.

Let your jaw soften.

Scrunch your shoulders all the way up to your ears, and when it feels right, let them glide back down.

Now that that’s done… follow these steps!

  1. Schedule a 20 minute phone call. You pick a day and time that works best for you

  2. Fill out the form I’ll send so we can make the most of our time together.

  3. On the day/time you scheduled, we’ll chat in the virtual therapy room to get a feel for online counseling, and me.

I only work with a few clients at a time so I guarantee consistent, personalized support - so this call is important.

It helps us see if I’m a good fit for the support you’re needing. If I am, awesome!

And if I’m not, that’s totally cool too. I’ll help you find what you’re looking for, even if it’s not me.

 FAQs

  • Blood. Sweat. & your first born child.

I kid… a little. The type of deep healing and radical transformation you’re after requires a serious investment. And I know this investment will pay off.

    Intake Sessions are $225

Weekly 50 minute sessions are $200

  • Sessions are about 50 minutes. I’m also available via messaging and email between sessions for questions, ideas, or concerns in between appointments. I consider myself on retainer for you.

If you’re asking how long does therapy take to work, like, in general…there are several answers.

In general, most clients start to see positive changes in the first 3 sessions, and are conquering major goals in the first six months.

  • Therapy (or counseling, I use both words) helps you find acceptance, ground into your values, and take aligned action to create the life you want. You don’t deserve the pain that’s brought you to therapy. And it’s possible to heal. For those defenses to become really relaxed. Discover the things you used to cope with that hard relationship. You can become mindful of any triggers you picked up along the way. You don’t want to inflict any of that trauma onto the people you care about.

In the process of online therapy you learn to have a peaceful, loving relationship. With yourself, the people you love, and a future partner.

  • Insurance does cover online counseling!

I take Blue Cross Blue Shield.

If you have a different insurance provider, they still may cover sessions! Most people are surprised by how good their Out of Network benefits are. If you’d like to see how much of your sessions are still covered, reach out! I handle the paperwork headache for you.

I do take FSA and HSA cards, and all manner of debit and credit cards.

Why online therapy?

Online counseling / virtual therapy / telehealth…all the same thing.

In 2019, I turned down a telehealth option. Who wants to come to therapy online? That’s so weird.

Now we do basically everything online. Evidence shows that online therapy is just as effective as in person therapy. And my clients are busy bees. They’re going from their shift at the hospital to working on their side hustle. Trying to meet a friend before they go on a date. Eating lunch during their zoom meeting while sending an email.

I am exclusively do online counseling. After six years of an hour long commute every day, I’ve found I do the very best work when I can walk to my office from my kitchen. And my clients usually do too.

Checklist for Successful Online Therapy

You don’t need a commute to get the life you want.

You just need a solid wifi connection. And I recommend headphones. I make sure my end of the call is completely isolated from anyone. Total privacy. I think headphones are the easiest way for you to ensure that for yourself.

I love it when clients have an iced coffee too.

A favorite pillow or blanket to snuggle. Light a beautiful candle. Anything that helps them feel safe and homey. You’ve set aside an hour to invest in yourself. Invest all the way!

My in-office clients…

Enjoy having a pocket in their day to just be themselves. Not responsible for anyone else’s needs. Don’t have to ‘be together.’ Close the office door (or car door, car therapy is great), take a deep breath, and be real.

My WFH Clients…

Love online therapy. It’s a chance to unplug from their corporate life, curl up in their favorite blanket, and cuss up a storm

Maybe you’ve heard your favorite podcaster talk about how life changing therapy is.

Maybe you’ve only seen therapy on TV.

Or you once did couples therapy with an ex where you know you weren’t truthful.

Now you’re curious but apprehensive.

Here’s a little look at what virtual therapy with me is like:

What’s online therapy with Emilea really like?

The first session is kind of like me taking the on-ramp to the highway of your life.

I want to understand the road signs and mile markers. Make sure our senses of humor sync up. Get to know the major players in your life.

The most important element of good therapy (online counseling or in person) is a good relationship between me and the client. It doesn’t matter how fancy or evidence based my techniques are. If you aren’t feeling it - therapy won’t work.

Together we map out your nervous system:

  • How have your adrenaline levels been?

  • How aware are you of your body?

  • What does your body need to feel safe enough moment to moment?

Then we look at the relationship rubble scattered around your heart and life. The expectations and emotions. The ways you’ve learned to cope.

Do you like those coping skills? Do you need more?

Then I ask the question my clients are most afraid of. The question my clients don’t think is important. But is the most important question I can ask as a therapist.

What do you want?

That question plugs in a final destination for our GPS.

Now we’ll know if we’re driving the car in the best direction.

Sometimes the answer to this question is simply “not here.” And that’s okay.

Eventually it can get more specific like “Cancun” or “Telluride.”

By the end of therapy you’ll have an exact address of where you want to go, and you’ll be pulling into the driveway.

What about Sliding Scale?

I do reserve a few sliding scale spots on my caseload. At this time, they are full. If you are interested in being put on a waitlist, please contact me. You can also check out Open Path for a list of sliding scale clinicians in your area!
